Aluminum Sand Casting
ALUMINUM SAND CASTING
Sand casting is a metal casting technique in which sand is used to shape substances together. It is well suited for making individual components. Aluminum Sand Casting allows the production of the most complex castings. It is efficient and accurate.
The Process Of Aluminum Sand Casting
Here’s a summary of the method of aluminum sand casting:
Step 1: Making Mold
Making a mold is by placing the mix of sand, clay, and water on a design (the duplicate of the thing to be cast). Although this method is done by hand, machinery is used to improve mold precision. The clay will have a cavity corresponding to the pattern’s form when the pattern is removed.
Step 2: The Gating System
The cope is the crowning component of a sand mold, while the drag is its base. Cheeks, which are extra components, may also be use. For protection, the molds are encased in a two-part (or more if cheeks are used) box known as a flask. Before the sealing of flask, any sand cores required to make part details are placed inside the mold halves. The gating mechanism is inserted into the mold and a sprue forms so that molten alloy can be fed into the casting process.
Step 3: Clamping
The two halves are then joined and clamped together. After that, the pouring of molten metal into the mold. As the metal cools and some strain develops, molten metal is fed in from the risers that were inserted into the casting process.
Step 4: Cooling
The cooling time is longer in sand and clay because they do not absorb heat. The cooling time with permanent mold or die casting is far shorter than that of temporary mold or die casting.
Step 5: Cast ShakeOut
After enough time for the metal to solidify, the cast shake out occurs. The moisture in the molten metal is dried out as it enters the mold. When the metal has cooled, it makes cracking open the cast easier.
