What is a Pump Casting
A pump is a mechanical device that moves fluids (liquids or gases, slurries). Pump casting is pump parts are designed and cast by different metal casting processes. It has many types and applications.
The Pump Casting Materials Choosing
- Cast iron:QT450-10, QT500-7, QT600-3.
- Cast steel/ stainless steel: martensitic stainless steel, Austenitic stainless steel (CF-8M, CF-3M). Duplex stainless steel material (50% ferrite + 50% austenite).
- Bronze
- Carbon structural steel
- Alloy steel: 40Cr instead of gold steel

Pump Casting Processes
Pumps have different types. For example, Water Pumps, Hydraulic Pumps, Vacuum Pumps, Trash Pumps, Sump Pumps, etc. According to pump types, we make different casting processes. The main processes in JC Casting foundry are below:

Sand Casting Steps
- Production of a core used to create internal passages of the pump casting. This core is made of a heat-activated resin-coated sand.
- Mounting a pattern designed for the customer’s specific applications onto an automatic molding machine.
- Using the pattern, the machine makes the mold automatically, filling chambers above and below the pattern with sand, and squeezing the sand against the pattern to form the inner geometry of the mold.
- Setting the core into the mold and closing the mold to be prepared for pouring.
- Pouring the molten metal into the mold and forming the component.
- Giving the mold time to cool down and removing the metal castings from the sand.
- Cutting the pump component away from the gating system and cleaning and finishing them to customer specifications.
In general application, cast iron pumps are water pump casting. They are more used for water transporting. Stainless steel pumps are for transporting corrosive media.
Post Treatment
We will adopt quenching and tempering heat treatment processes. To improve the mechanical properties, hardness, wear resistance, and strength.
